Soap:- Soaps are what? The sodium and potassium salts of higher fatty acids formed by a process named saponification (hydrolysis of fats).
Handwash:- Handwash is basically the liquid form of soap and is more effective than soap in terms of hygiene and it's skin friendly nature.
Santizer:- Sanitizer mainly contains alcohol (A hydrocarbon, composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxgen). It is widely used by the doctors but now a days, as we are going through tough times of corona, almost everyone has his own sanitizer in his pocket.
Disinfectant:- It is similar to sanitizer but is different in certain aspects like,
• It kills virus, fungi and bacteria(germs) almost completely whereas sanitizer reduces the germs to about 99%
• Disinfectants take some minutes to kill germs but Sanitizers are somewhat faster in that aspect.
PPE(Personal Protective Equipment)kit:- This kit contains certain essential material such as gloves, protective suit, goggles, mask, shoes etc. Everything in it is a part of chemistry.
Mask:- The mask we use mainly is made up of polypropylene (one of the lightest synthetic fibers present).
(HCQ)-Hydroxychloroquine:- It is the anti-malarial drug which is now used widely all over the world in this pandemic (Covid-19). The recent study of ICMR (Indian Council of Medical Research) have shown that the high dosage of Hydroxychloroquine lowers down the corona virus infection rate in health care workers.
Thermometer:- The temp. Measuring thermometers are also a part of chemistry. In a thermometer, mainly mercury(Hg) is placed in a glass container and the liquid in it rises because of the capillary action(due to volume expansion).
Today, these are used everywhere for screening of Covid-19.
In this way, chemistry is contributing and helping us to fight this situation of Covid-19.
